Summary

The book is acquainting the reader with the word presenting in vivid and simple language of antiquity. While permitting to draw up the full idea of the antique civilization in its more than a 1000-year period of development, it makes us acquainted with famous Greek philosophy being the spiritual substance of antique civilization, contributing to the intellectual image of European culture on the whole. The process of origin and genesis of philosophy taken in its main subjects, ideas, categories and philosophical conscience intentions, developing in the first considerable epoch of its existence, are elucidated in this book. All basic conceptions of antique time and the most significant representatives of philosophical thought – from the creation of early – philosophical cosmogonies living in 6 century BC (Thales, Heraclitus, Pythagoras, Empedocles etc.) to new – platonics of 3-5 centuries AD (Plotinus, Porfyry, Jamvlych, Proclus) are analyzed in this book.

This work, illuminating the antique philosophy history, is at the same time the introduction to the study of philosophical thinking peculiarity.

Owing to the scope of its materials, the book can be used as a textbook edition in the courses of the philosophy history, and the theory of culture as well as in the world history and political science courses.
