Художественное сравнение (simile):

a) The indoor bar area of the Standard had a loosely desert theme… the floor was cork, the lamps like giant desert flowers. (H. Fielding, “Olivia Joules”) b) Soon she was hearing her own heavy breathing, like a sound effect in a horror film. (H. Fielding, “Olivia Joules”) c) For a second, in the semi-darkness of the tunnel they stared at each other, mesmerized, like a cat and a goldfish. (H. Fielding, “Olivia Joules”)

Схожесть не очевидна:

a) Laws are like cobwebs, which may catch small flies but let wasps and hornets break through. (J. Swift) b) Dictionaries are like watches; the worst is better than none, and the best cannot be expected to be quite right. (S. Johnson)

Стёртое сравнение: You are like an elephant. His hair was like snow.

Развёрнутое сравнение:
