"DUNHAM -BUSH SAVES A MONTGOMERY WARD STORE 3580 PER YEAR IN AIR-CONDITIONING COSTS "
(A case History:Direct Expansion (DX) System vs. Chilled Water System)
Lower operating costs is just one of the reason why Montgomery Ward has a Dunham -Bush Direct Expansion Air-Conditioning Systems. The figure above is at today power costs. Heart of the system is a pair of Dunham -Bush DBX Rotary Screw Compressors rates at 200 tons each. Both are piped to a single 400-ton " field built -up " coil bank with controls for six cooling zones. The screw compressors provide stable operation over the operating range, down to 10 percent to full load. This means faster response, closer controls of air temperature and humidity, less energy consumption. Using a direct expansion system instead of chilled water eliminates water pumps and their associated costs. Evaporative condensers instead of the conventional cooling tower means reduced 'makeup " water and water treatment costs no water cooled condenser maintenance and reduced pumping costs.
AIR-CONDITIONING CRITERIA.
1. 400-ton full load requirement at 95 degrees F design ambient
2. 3,900 hours annual operating season
3. 6 cooling zones
4. second floors equipment room with adjacent fan room
