In order to talk about people and things from a particular country we need to know three words:
Ø the adjective used to refer to the country, culture products etc.
Ø the word used for a person from the country. It can be used both with the definite or indefinite article according to the rules of use of articles with countable nouns.
Ø The word to refer to the whole nation that is used with the definite article.
All the words can be divided into several groups. Study the chart given below:

British people do not usually use these words. Briton appears mostly in newspaper headlines.
Britisher is used mainly by Americans or Australians.
The words ending in -man have feminine forms in –woman.
The Scots prefer the adjectives Scottish, but other people often use the word Scotch (Scotch whisky).
The names of national language are usually the same as the adjective forms.
