Р 4.1 Обстоятельственные причастные обороты с предшествующими союзами

При рассматривании типов сложных предложений в главе 8, был приведен список союзов, которые вводят обстоятельственные придаточные предложения (см. таблицу 8.1). Это такие союзы как: once, although, though, even though, unless, if, until, whenever, whether, as compared, compared и другие.

Если главное и придаточное предложение относятся к одному подлежащему, то придаточное предложение можно свести (редуцировать) к причастному обороту. Если подлежащие разные, то редуцирование невозможно.

Например:

· We worked on the project until we finished it.
We worked on the project until finishing it.

· Although he was hurt, Jack managed to smile.
Although hurt, Jack managed to smile.

· When you are planting these flowers, care must be taken not to damage the roots.

Поскольку подлежащие разные, то следующее предложение неверно:

*When planting these flowers care must be taken not to damage the roots.

При желании выразить эту мысль с помощью причастного оборота, нужно заменить подлежащее в главном предложении:

When planting these flowers you must take care not to damage the roots.

Упр.10 Р.8 Решите, может ли предложение, содержащее обстоятельственное придаточное предложение, быть сведено к простому предложению с причастным оборотом. Если да, то преобразуйте его в простое предложение, содержащее причастный оборот.

1. While the crew was waiting for the tide to come in, they checked all their equipment.

2. While knowledge about the brain is growing, many riddles of the thought process remain unsolved.

3. When they built the wall, the Romans also erected forts every mile.

4. When a cowboy is working on the range, he goes for a long period of time without seeing his family.

5. The most recent glaciation on Mount Kilimanjaro occurred between 1400 and 1700, when the Northern Hemisphere was in the grip of the Little Ice Age.

6. After the newly found skull had been reconstructed, the anthropologist found it to be similar to human skulls.

7. Since the company came to the area, it has brought many jobs to the community.

8. Before you go on a long-distance hike, you should soak your feet in cold salty water to toughen the skin.

9. Even though there was a campaign against smoking, tobacco farmers had not yet felt its effect.

10. While the deer was under the effect of the tranquilizer, the scientist put a tag on its ear and recorded details about the animal.
