Read the following facts about our consumerist society. Should we develop other consumer spending patterns? Why / Why not? Money spent on pet food in the USA and Europe each year: 17 billion dollars Money needed to supply medicine and food to the entire world: 13 billion dollars Money spent on perfumes every year: 12 billion dollars The price for clean water to the entire world: 9 billion dollars Money the USA spends each year on cosmetics: 8 billion dollars Basic education for all the children in the world: 7 billion dollars Money the USA spends at Christmas every year: 450 billion dollars Or 16 years of food, water and basic education for the entire world. 1.3. Match the words with the definition and describe peculiarities of modern consumerist culture.
