Management

To become a manager means to work hard, a manager has to be very responsible, s/he should know what s/he wants.

The topic of this manual is "Management. What is a manager?" So we are to speak about the necessity of management nowadays and we'll try to answer the question. You'll finish polytechnic school soon and choose your future profession. Many of you are going to become managers. Which qualities should you possess to become one? Not so long ago, we used such words as a director of a factory plant, now we say managers. Now think a bit and try to find the difference, please.

When used collectively, the term “management” refers to those people who are responsible for making and carrying out decisions: within the system.

The term “manager” is used more frequently in profit-making organisations, while the others are used more widely in government and non-profit organisations such as universities, hospitals and social work agencies.

An individual manager is a person who directly supervises people in an organisation. Managing is a hard job. There is a lot to be done and relatively little time to do it. An engineer can finish a design on a particular day and a lawyer can win or lose a case at a certain time. But the manager's job is like “Old Man River” just keeps going.
