Long-term goals



Long-term goals require more than 4 weeks until an optimal level of function is achieved. Therapeutic exercise plays an important part in the achievement of long-term goals. Therapeutic exercise is used to increase strength, agility, speed, power, range of motion, sensory feedback, posture, endurance, coordination, balance, relaxation, and other psychological training skills. The SAID principle (specific adaptations to imposed demands) must be reemphasized during the development of the long-term goals and treatment programs. Rehabilitation must be adapted to the specific demands placed upon the athlete's body and on the injured part by the specific requirements of the sport and playing position.
