Условные предложения III типа

Условные предложения III типа образуются с помощью if + Past Perfect в придаточном предложении и would (could, might) + Perfect Infinitive в главном предложении.

Они используются для описания ситуаций, которые не соответствуют реальным событиям в прошлом и их умозрительных последствий. Условные предложения III типа могут начинаться как с придаточного предложения, так и с главного предложения.

· Утверждение:

If I had known his background, I would never have employed him.(I didn’t know his background and I did employ him.)

You would have been arrested if the police had caught you. (They didn’t catch you, so you weren’t arrested.)

· Отрицание:

If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have thought it possible. (I did see it with my own eyes, so it must be possible.)

I wouldn’t have gone to the party if I hadn’t received an invitation. (I did receive an invitation, and I did go.)

· Вопрос:

Would you have applied for the job if you ’d seen the advertisement?

If the engine had been losing a lot of oil, would you have noticed?
