Pediatric Nursing

Pediatric nursing includes the diagnosis and treatment of actual and potential health problems. Its purpose is to promote (способствовать) the highest possible state of health in each child. It consists of preventing disease or injury; assisting children, including those with a permanent handicap (физический недостаток) or health problem, to achieve and maintain an optimum level of health and development; and treating and rehabilitating children who have health deviations (отклонение).

Pediatric nurses are involved in every aspect of a child’s growth and development.

Standard 1.

The nurse helps children and parents attain and maintain optimum health.

Standard 2.

The nurse assists families to achieve and maintain a balance between the personal growth needs of individual family members and optimum family functioning.

Standard 3.

The nurse intervenes with vulnerable clients and families at risk to prevent potential developmental and health problems.

Standard 4.

The nurse promotes an environment free of hazards to reproduction, growth and development, wellness, and recovery from illness.
