Work of the Nurse at the Infectious Department

At a large hospital there is usually an infectious department for patients who have caught an infectious disease. The nurses who work at the infectious department have two main tasks: to give due care to the patients and to prevent the spread of infection. They keep all the wards clean and do wet cleaning at least two times a day. The wards are regularly aired. The nurses wipe the walls, the floor, bed tables and windowsills using disinfectant solution. Discharges of the patients are decontaminated. Vessels used for the patient’s discharge are poured with boiling water and plunged into a disinfectant solution. Dressing material is burnt after use. Nurses wear special gowns, gloves and masks when they work at the infectious department. They wash their hands carefully with soap and running water. Nurses carry out all the doctor’s prescriptions: administer drugs, register temperature, feed the patients, wash their face and hands. To overcome infection nurses and doctors should be very careful, accurate and follow all the rules of hygiene and cleansing.
