2. Read the following political speeches. Who would you vote for and why? Complete the gaps with the cohesive devices below.

Candidate 1:Our party support people. In the last eight years that we have been in power, the economy has grown by six per cent every year. (1)_____ we have less unemployment and more people in work. We have made it easier for women to go back to work after they have children, (2)_____ last year we introduced subsidized child care for working mothers. We’ve also tightened equality rules. Now more than ever, companies can’t discriminate against working mothers. We have (3)_____ made it easier for mothers of teenage children to go back to work by introducing the ‘Back to work programme’ for women over 40. (4)_____ remember: a vote for us is a vote for a safe, secure future, without the fear of unemployment. It is a vote for you and for your family.
as a result also so for instance
Candidate 2:We are tired of the same old empty promises and we have many reasons to be tired. (1)_____, there is less unemployment because this government has forced the unemployed to take low-paid jobs with no job security. This government has made it impossible to claim social security, (2)_____ the ‘Back to work programme’ and the subsidized child care for working mothers. (3)_____ there is the fear to be fired. Our economy works because people are so afraid of losing their jobs that they are working more hours, and not getting paid overtime. (4)_____, the cost of health care and education has become so high that 40% of the country have virtually no proper health care and can’t afford to send their children to university. Ladies and gentlemen, we can stop complaining about being tired, and we can wake up to a new reality, by voting for the opposition.
finally to begin with hence then
