Routine police work

The most part of police officers are engaged in peace-keeping or so called non-law enforcement activities, that are everyday mundane duties or routine police work.
Many incidents the police handle, arise when the police respond to citizens’ calls for service – a citizen telephone the police and the dispatcher directs a radio-equipped patrol car to deal with the situation. The police officer handles a wide range of human troubles many of which have little or nothing to do with criminal law enforcement. He transports people to hospital, writes reports of auto accidents, and arbitrates and mediates between disputants – neighbors, husbands and wives, businessmen and customers. He takes missing person reports, directs traffic, controls crowds at fires, writes dog-bite reports, and identifies abandoned autos. He removes hazards from the streets, quiets noisy parties, evicts a drunken person from a bar and occasionally scoops up a dead animal. Policemen also spend much of their time with “juvenile troubles”.
Thus, in the line of his everyday duties a policeman directs, aids, informs, pacifies, warns, disciplines, – in short, contributes to the maintenance of the peace and order.
That is very incomplete list of routine police work that the officers perform. It includes a lot of thankless tasks which the police officers have to perform.
