Conditionals (Умовні речення)

Ми використовуємо умовні речення, щоб висловити, що дія в головному реченні може мати місце тільки якщо виконується певна умова. Вони вводяться сполучниками if, unless та as long as. Існує чотири види умовних речень:

• The zero conditional – використовуємо коли результат умови завжди правдивий, як науковий факт.

If you heat ice, it melts.

• The first conditional (для дійсних або можливих ситуацій).

(present simple) (will in positive or negative + verb)

If you like entertainment, you will love the latest multimedia video games.

В головному реченні, ми можемо вжити модальне дієслово або наказовий спосіб дієслова.

If you want to create your own MP3 files from your CDs, you must have a CD ripper.

• The second conditional (для можливих ситуацій).

If you wanted to make a movie on your computer, first you would/you'd need to...

Якщо в умовному реченні з’являється дієслово be, то ми вживаємо were замість was, навіть якщо займенник I, he, she or it.

If I were you, I’d buy this type of software.

• Тhe third conditional (про минулі ситуації) – ми говоримо про умову в минулому, що не відбулася. Ось чому немає ніякої можливості для цієї умови.

If I had seen her, I would have invited her.

• Mixed conditionals вживається тоді, коли дія в головному реченні не була одночасною з дією в реченні умови.

If I were smarter, I would have graduated from Stanford.
