While reading the paper, he puts a sausepan in the sink, turns on the tap and then goes to the refrigerator. He opens the door, takes out an uncooked pie, which he then puts in the oven. After turning on the oven, he puts on an apron, takes some potatoes from a cupboard and starts peeling them.
Pam: Alex! I'm back.
She comes into the kitchen.
Pairv Hi.
Alex: Where on earth have you been?
Pam: I've been working. I had to finish the Burgess designs by this evening.
Alex: The potatoes are done, and the pie's in the oven.
Pam: Good.
Alex: Couldn't it have waited until tomorrow? They are only sketches. Pam starts cutting the potatoes.
Pam: No, it couldn't wait until tomorrow because they had to be delivered then. And they may be only sketches to you, Alex, but they're very important to me.
Alex: Well, I don't have the boss to dinner every day of the week.
Pam: No, thank God! Alex glares at her.
Pam: I don't know what you're panicking for anyway. Everything's prepared. By the way, he's coming with his wife, isn't he?
Alex: Oh no, he's coming on his own. His wife can't make it.
