AND DEATH SHALL HAVE NO DOMINION (D. Thomas)

And Death shall have no dominion.

Dead men naked they shall be one

With the man in the wind and the west moon;

When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,

They shall have stars at elbow and foot;

Though they go mad they shall be sane,

Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;

Though lovers be lost love shall not:

And death shall have no dominion.

E. Hemingway “In Another Country”

Another boy who walked with us sometimes and made us five wore a black silk handkerchief across his face because he had no nose then and his face was to be rebuilt. He had gone out to the front from the military academy and been wounded within an hour after he had gone to the front line for the first time. They rebuilt his face, but he came from a very old family and they could never get the nose exactly right. He went to South America and worked in a bank. But this was a long time ago, and then we did not any of us know how it was going to be afterward. We only knew then that there was always thewar, but that we were not going to it any more.

1) not that quick, not that far, don't ask that much, you must not be here that late, it is that simple, I am not that rich, nothing is that simple.

2) that you (he, I, etc.) are (was, were, etc.), например: a fool that 1 am, villain that he is, naive that she is.

The high-sloping roof, of a fine sooty pink, was almost Danish, and two "ducky" little windows looked out of it, giving an impression that very tall servants lived up there. (J. Galsworthy.)

Old Jolyon was on the alert at once. Wasn't the "man of property" going to live in his new house, then? He never alluded to Soames now but under this title.

Yes, sir, quite right. You are a little before your time, sir." (D.) 5. Young Blight made another great show of changing the volume, taking up a pen, sucking it, dipping it, and running over previous entries before he wrote. As, "Mr. Alley, Mr. Bailey, Mr. Galley, Mr. Dalley, Mr. Falley, Mr. Galley, Mr. Halley, Mr. Lalley, 'Mr. Malley. And Mr. Boffin." (D.) 6.
