The principles of agroecology are expressed differently depending on local ecological and social contexts.
Latin America's experiences with North American Green Revolution agricultural techniques have opened space for agroecologists. Traditional or indigenous knowledge represents a wealth of possibility for agroecologists, including "exchange of wisdoms." Most of the historical farming in Madagascar has been conducted by indigenous peoples. The French colonial period disturbed a very small percentage of land area, and even included some useful experiments in sustainable forestry. Slash-and-burn techniques, a component of some shifting cultivation systems have been practised by natives in Madagascar for centuries. As of 2006 some of the major agricultural products from slash-and-burn methods are wood, charcoal and grass for Zebu grazing. These practises have taken perhaps the greatest toll on land fertility since the end of French rule, mainly due to overpopulation pressures.

| Transit routs of auto travelers to Europe, Crimea, Caucasus and central regions of Russia go through the territory of Ukraine. 4 of the 9 European transport corridors pass through the territory of Ukraine. Auto tourism is one of the most mobile and inexpensive kinds of tourism and Ukraine has great opportunities for its development as it has an extensive developed road network up to 5 ths km. There are more than 30 natural conservation areas (national parks, biosphere and natural reservations etc), numerous botanical gardens and landscape parks at the territory of Ukraine. The country has a number of natural reserves, which are of interest for tourists. Among the are Crimean and Carpathian natural reserves, biosphere reserve «Askania-Nova», dendrological parks in Uman and Bila Tserkva, Trostianets, caves in Crimea and Podillia, National natural park «Shatski ozera»(«Lakes of Shatsk»), significant sites of garden art, unique Grand Canyon of Crimea, Stone Tomb in Zaporizhzhia region. Carpathian region covers four western oblasts of Ukraine and offers year-round recreation services in the Carpathians. Opportunities such as walks and horseback riding, catamaran and canoe shipping, mountain and lowland river rafting as well as downhill skiing are available here. Popularity of mountain skiing is boosting in Ukraine. Thus the ski industry is rapidly developing in all 4 Carpathian regions. The most popular resorts are: Slavske (Lviv region), Yasinya, Syniak, Borzhavski polonyny (Zakarpattya region), Vorokhta, Tysmenytsya, Yablunytsya, Yaremcha (Ivano-Frankivsk region) and actively developing Migovo (Chernivtsi region). Crimea is a traditional region for summer vacations and health improvement. At the same time winter tourism is also actively developing in Crimea. Taking into account that steady snow covering exists only uphill (at the height more than 400 m) the skiing and sledding centers at the peninsula are Angarskyy Pass and Ay-Petri slopes. During 2007 summer season Crimean peninsula welcomed more than 5.5 mn people. For development of tourism and resort sectors of Crimea USD 170.3 mn of investments were attracted during last years. Annual demand of costs for development of tourist infrastructure on the sea coast of Crimea constitutes approximately EUR 1.5 bn. Approximately EUR 2 mn is needed for construction of international balneological resort «Euro-region «Arabat», which is part of the international programme «Blue Flags of Europe». Western Ukraine is also an attractive investment region. Regions especially attractive for investments are Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Volyn and Zakarpattya regions, which are located on the west of the country and share boarders with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. With its geographical advantage and favorable transportation system Western Ukraine is different from other regions of the country. 12 railway routs pass through the territory of this region, which connect Ukraine with 5 bordering countries. As of today 57 ski runs operate in Zakarpattya. Zakarpattya is one of the 5 largest regions of the country by the share of investments into development of tourist infrastructure and generated approximately EUR 290 mn. An example of such project is construction of ski resort «Polonyna Runa». Construction of this resort envisages drawing of direct investments in the amount of EUR 90 mn. More than 130 ths. archeological, historical, architectural and art monuments and relics are under governmentsupervi-sion. Many of them are bases of expositions in more than 300 national museums and 62 history and cultural conservation areas, 15 of them have a national status. Ukraine today has 2.5 ths. museums including municipal and private. During 2007 9.5 mn foreign tourists visited Ukraine and 1.2 mn Ukrainians have travelled within the territory of Ukraine. The total volume of consumption of goods and services of tourist and other sectors of economy amounted to USD 7.8 bn USD or UAH 39.4 bn. | Через Україну проходять тран-зитні маршрути автотуристів до Європи, Криму, Кавказу, центра-льних районів Росії. В країні розташовано багато при-родних заповідних об’єктів, які представляють інтерес для тури-стів. Серед них: Кримський та Карпатський природні запо-відники, біосферний заповідник «Асканія-Нова», дендропарки в містах Умань і Біла Церква, Тро-стянець, карстові печери в Кри-му та на Поділлі, Національний природний парк «Шацькі озера», пам’ятки садово-паркового мис-тецтва, унікальний Великий Каньйон Криму, Кам’яні могили в Запорізькій області тощо. Карпатський регіон охоплює територію чотирьох західних об-ластей України, які пропонують відпочинок у Карпатах протягом всього року. Тут є всі можли-вості для здійснення піших і кін-них прогулянок, спуску на ката-маранах, плотах чи каное гірсь-кими та рівнинними ріками. Ба-жаючі можуть покататися гірсь-колижними трасами. Популяр-ність гірських лиж в Україні стрімко зростає. Так, гірськоли-жний відпочинок зараз активно розвивається в усіх чотирьох карпатських областях. Найбільш популярними є такі курорти: Славське (Львівська обл.), Ясіня, Синяк, Боржавські полонини (За-карпатська обл.), Ворохта, Тис-мениця, Яблуниця, Яремче (Іва-но-Франківська обл.), активно розвивається Мигово (Чернівець-ка обл.). Крим – традиційний регіон літ-нього відпочинку й оздоровлен-ня. У Криму також активно роз-вивається й зимовий туризм. З огляду на те, що стійкий сніго-вий покрив щорічно буває тільки в горах (на висоті від 400 м), центрами лижного відпочинку на півострові стали Ангарський перевал і схили гори Ай-Петрі. Упродовж літнього сезону 2007 року Кримський півострів відвідало понад 5,5 млн осіб. За останні роки було залучено 170,3 млн USD інвестицій у розбудову туристично-курортної сфери Криму. Щорічна потреба в коштах для розвитку туристич-ної інфраструктури морського берегу Криму складає близько 1,5 млрд EUR. Для будівництва міжнародного бальнеологічного курорту «Єврорегіон «Арабат», що бере участь у Міжнародній програмі «Блакитний прапор Європи», необхідно близько 2 млрд EUR. Привабливою для інвестування є й Західна Україна, зокрема Львівська, Івано-Франківська, Волинська, Закарпатська області, які розташовані на заході країни, на межі з Польщею, Словаччи-ною, Угорщиною та Румунією. Західна Україна відрізняється від інших регіонів країни своїм вигідним транспортно-географіч-ним положенням. Через терито-рію регіону пролягають дванад-цять залізничних шляхів, які з’єднують Україну з п’ятьма сусідніми державами. На сьогодні в Закарпатті працюють 57 гірськолижних трас. За обсягами інвестицій у розвиток туристичної інфрастру-ктури, Закарпатський регіон вхо-дить до п’ятірки найбільших ре-гіонів країни. Ці надходження складають близько 290 млн EUR. Одним із таких проектів є бу-дівництво гірськолижного цент-ру «Полонина Руна», який пере-дбачає залучення прямих інвес-тицій загальною сумою близько 90 млн EUR. На державному обліку перебу-ває понад 130 тис. пам’яток археології, історії, архітектури, мистецтва, багато з яких є основою експозицій більше ніж 300 державних музеїв та 62 історико-культурних заповідни-ків, з яких 15 мають державний статус. Загалом же в Україні понад 2,5 тисячі музеїв, у тому числі комунальних та приватних. Упродовж 2007 року Україну відвідало 9,5 млн іноземних ту-ристів, 1,2 млн українських тури-стів подорожували в межах держави. Обсяг споживання товарів і послуг туристичної та інших галузей економіки склав понад 7,8 млрд USD, або 39,4 млрд грн. |
