In what circumstances will you use English in the future? Think about work, travel, social situations, the Internet, etc.

A) Read and act out the following dialogue.

- Ann, what language are you learning?

- English. Why are you asking?

- You see. I learnt German at school, but now I’d like to have practical training on the farm in the USA. And I have to know English.

- Then you must attend the English courses which are organised at the University.

- Is it very difficult to study English?

- To tell you the truth it is not easy. You should learn grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. But don’t be scared!

- What do you feel about learning grammar?

- You must learn grammar in any language. After all you can’t build a house without foundations.

- And what about pronunciation? A lot of students find that hard.

- English intonation is awful! I mean, I think, it’s the most difficult part of pronunciation, because if you get it wrong, people may think you are rude.

- What advice would you give me?

- Don’t panic, work hard and don’t give up!

B) Discuss with your friend the difficulties you have in learning English.
