The USA

The United States of America is one of the biggest countries in the world. It occupies most of North America. It borders on Canada in the north and Mexico in the south. The total area is over nine million square kilometres. The population is 236 million. It has different climatic regions because of its large territory.

The USA is rich in mineral and natural resources. Such industries as shipbuilding, electronics, automobile and aircraft industries, space research are highly developed there.

There are 50 states and many big cities. The biggest city is New York. The capital of the country is Washington, DC. The USA became the world leading country in the 20^th century.

The USA is a presidential republic. The legislative branch of the Government is the Congress. It consists of two parts: the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Congress makes laws. The House of Representatives can impeach the President.

The executive branch puts the laws into effect. The President of the USA is a member of executive branch. The President must be at least 35 years old and be a natural citizen of the USA. The term of presidency is 4 years.
