Исследования self имеют для этнопсихологии важное, хотя и опосредованное значение. Этнопсихология не может принять законченный вид пока не сформулирует учение о личности. Именно на своеобразном представлении о личности строится этнопсихологические концепции поддержания стабильности традиционного общества и возможности для него быстрой и спонтанной модификации, а также десфенкциональных процессов, которые ведут к гибели культуры. Поэтому современная дискуссия по проблеме self не может оставаться вне поля внимания этнопсихолога.
