1. Take an inventory of the food you have at home. What healthy foods do you find? What "unhealthy" foods do you find? What natural foods do you find? Speak about it in the class.

2. Create a poster representing a nutritional information panel from a food package. Explain what each of the items and numbers means.

3. Create, distribute, analyze and graph a survey about issues discussed in the featured article, such as the amount of times per week one eats in a restaurant, prepares food from basic ingredients at home, and eats fast food.

V. Webquest “Dying to be thin”

Why do a disproportionate number of young women suffer from severe eating disorders? Eating disorders are threatening the lives of millions of young male and female adolescents each year. Media advertising portrays young people with waif-life figures as having the “ideal” figure”. Often adolescents will go to great lengths to achieve these figures, literally starving themselves to death. Perhaps there is pressure from coaches or dance instructors to maintain an ideal weight to achieve success. Or do peers, family members and friends unconsciously make us feel that we fall short of acceptability due to our lack of the popular conception of the ideal figure?
