In many of the most modern factories where working conditions have to be closely controlled windowless buildings are used. An example is a works for manufacturing fluorescent electric lamps, where dust - free air is very important because dust particles effect operations of finished lamps.

Air - conditioning in mines is a new development with the new promising future. Air - conditioning plants are being installed is most of the world's largest mines.

Air conditioning is rapidly being adopted for railway coaches, in ship's passenger and cargo spaces and automobiles. One of the most inter­esting recent developments is the application of air - conditioning to automobile. Car heaters have been employed, but recently new equipment has been designed to maintain saloon - body interiors at a comfortable temperature summer and winter and free from draughts.
