Job satisfaction



Good morning/afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.

I’m so glad to see all of you here today and listening my speech. Hope you will enjoy it. If you have some questions during the speech, I’m glad to answer them at the end.

Today I’ll speak about very actual topic for all of us which is called job satisfaction. In this very speech I’m going to speak about motivation for work and which things influence on us while working, perks[pə:k](льготы) and benefits we take from doing our best on the workplace, the role of our salary and how money matters for us.

Job satisfaction has been defined as a pleasurable [ˈpleʒ(ə)rəbl] emotional state resulting from the appraisal [ə'preɪzl] (оценка,ценность) of one’s job; an a’ffective reaction to one’s job; and an attitude towards one’s job. Job satisfaction describes how content an individual is with his or her job. The happier people are within their job, the more satisfied they are said to be. Job satisfaction is not the same as motivation, although it is clearly linked. Job design aims to enhance [inˈhɑ:n(t)s](увелич,усилить) job satisfaction and performance, methods include job rotation [rəˈteiʃ(ə)n](вращение), job enlargement [enˈlɑ:ʤmənt](расширение) and job enrichment(обогащение). Other influences on satisfaction include the management style and culture, employee involvement, empowerment and autonomous work position. Job satisfaction is a very important attribute which is frequently [ˈfri:kwəntli] (часто)measured [ˈmeʒəd] by organizations.

Other important thing about job satisfaction is motivating factor. There are different motivating factors that make people work better: bonus, perks, fringe benefits [frɪndʒ](дополнит льготы бонусы), bigger salary, commission, praise(хвалить), more responsibility, threat of redundancy [rɪ'dʌndənsɪ], hard-working boss, good colleagues[ˈkɔli:g], constant competition(постоян конкуренция), working for a successful company, a better working environment, promotion opportunities.

Of course, perks, benefits and any kind of money reward play the main role in job satisfaction.

High wage is the first reason for us to choose the company we will work in, frequency ['frɪːkwənsɪ] (частота) of benefits is the second condition for taking the job, working atmosphere is the last thing for us to consider the job winning or losing. As we may see money matter too much and the more money, benefits and perks common person has on his job the happier he is.

The purpose of the benefits is to increase the economic security of employees.

The term perks is often used colloquially [kəˈləukwiəliz(ə)m](разговорное выражение) to refer to those benefits of a more discretionary [diˈskreʃ(ə)n(ə)ri] (свободн,предоставл на свое усмотрение)nature. Often, perks are given to employees who are doing notably [ˈnəutəbli](особенно) well and/or have seniority. [ˌsi:niˈɔrəti] (труд стаж) Common perks are take-home vehicles, hotel stays, free refreshments(закуски), leisure [ˈleʒə](досуге) activities on work time (golf, etc.), stationery [ˈsteiʃ(ə)n(ə)ri](канцелярские принадлежности), allowances[əˈlauən(t)s](денежное пособие) for lunch, and—when multiple choices exist—first choice of such things as job assignments(командировка,задание) and vacation scheduling [ˈʃedju:l]. They may also be given first chance at job promotions when vacancies exist.

Companies should not reward employees only with huge wages, but also make their life easier (to make them loyal). There are certain benefits(льготы) provided(предоставлен) by companies to increase motivation: subsidized housekeeper [ˈsʌbsidaiz], childcare, company holidays, cosmetic surgery [ˈsə:ʤ(ə)ri](хирургия), counseling, haircuts, masseurs [mæˈsə:](массажист), cut-price sushi, tennis lessons. Some employees prefer to take extra training on their job instead of other kind of perks and benefits. Usually these employees have a long-term outlook in order to have progress in career. In some cases supervisory [ˌsu:pəˈvaiz(ə)ri](контроль, надзор) helps its staff fill in the leisure hours by offering swimming pools, fitness centers and dance classes. And at these companies hardly anyone ever leaves. Which might mean everyone is happy.

I sincerely hope that everyone who is sitting in this room today is satisfied with his job and has enough advantages to wake up every day and attend the working place.
