WRITTEN TASK:

  1. Prepare tables of the Basic Word Stock and the development of word-compounding and word-derivation.

CASE STUDY 2

Translation of “The prologue” (“Canterbury Tales”) into Modern English: (by Coghill) from the case study 1, translations are poetic translations, not word for word.

When in April the sweet showers fall

As brings about the engendering of the flower,

When also Zephyrus with his sweet breath

Exhales an air in every grove and heath

Upon the tender shoots, and the young sun
