1) Mass media was, is and will be commercial only. It is commercial in each and every capitalist economy. It exists to make money. Anybody who says that that's not how it should be is simply out of touch with the reality. The real question is the level of maturity (responsibility, skills ect.) of those involved. 2) In the past, newspaper executives understood the symbiotic relationship between their product and books. People who read books also read newspapers. From that basic tenet came a philosophy: If you foster books, you foster reading. If you foster reading, you foster newspapers.
