DIALOGUE. Bob:Hi, Alice . Haven’t seen you for ages

Bob: Hi, Alice. Haven’t seen you for ages. How are you?

Alice: I’m fine, thank you.

Bob: Alice, what are you doing on Monday?

Alice: Not much, what do you have in mind?

Bob: There’ll be a scientific conference «The History of Discovery of Chemical Elements» in our Academy. Would you like to come?

Alice: Sure, that sounds very interesting. What is it anyway?

Bob: There will be the reports of students and teachers about the study, the discovery and application of chemical elements. As for me, I’ m going to make a report about D.I. Mendeleev and his great contribution to the chemistry as far as chemical elements are concerned.

Alice: I would probably take part in it, either. I’d like to prepare a report about the use of chemical elements in the modern pharmacy. What time and where do we meet?

Bob: That would be great. Conference starts at 15:00.

Alice: OK, should I meet you somewhere at the academy?

Bob: How about picking you up at your house?

Alice: I don’t mind, see you then.

Exercise 6 (a): Translate some cliché from the dialogue:

Exercise 7: Before reading the text answer some questions:

1. Is it important for pharmacy student to know the properties of chemical elements? Why?

2. Give your own definition of the term «chemical element». Compare your answer with the «English-English dictionary».

3. In the dictionary find the definitions of the terms: proton, nucleus, radioactive.
